Our New Function Space

Located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, our charming independently owned cinema has everything you need for your special occasion. Located in the town centre, easily accessible from all major routes, with the train station only a 15 minute walk away. Car parking is widely available throughout the area.


Steeped in centuries of history, our beautiful building dates back to the Georgian period. Remaining as a pillar of the community for over 100 years as a Cinema. Characterful charm, friendly, dedicated staff and state of the art technology meet to bring you a wonderful venue to host your event. 

Our ground floor function room is a brand new space, opening at the beginning of 2023 The room boasts modern, contemporary decor, oak floors, state of the art sound and technology and a large screen capable of playing personal material and presentations. The room can seat up to 50 people comfortably. Great for corporate/ group presentations, networking events, parties, clubs and more.


Upstairs is our smaller, but equally as charming function room, complete with period features, high ceilings and large windows is tastefully decorated with muted colours and oak flooring. This space is perfect for hosting intimate get togethers, clubs, and receptions. The room can seat up to 30 people. 


Our onsite kitchen team are highly talented and bring vast experience to ensure we can deliver a bespoke service to complement any type of event. Using fresh, local produce of the highest quality we can tailor menus just for you. We have a fully licensed bar, stocked with local craft beer and lager, specially selected wines and cocktails created by our in house mixologist. 


There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the building. Disabled access across the ground floor. Baby changing facilities. Outdoor courtyard.

You can hire this room from just £40 for a daytime event and £60 in the evening. Better yet, you’ll get 50% off that if you choose to dine with us and the event space for FREE if you spend over £250!

Screen Hire

We are offering a truly unique experience here at the independent Abbeygate Cinema combining luxurious seating, state of the art equipment and the very best technical facilities all hosted in our unique historic building, sure to impress your guests. With the addition of our new Premier Screen, we have 3 screens available for private hire, so if you’re looking for that perfect space for an intimate private screening or a red carpet extravaganza, our experienced, dedicated private hire team will ensure your event is delivered personally and seamlessly with attention to detail that we pride ourselves on here at Abbeygate.


Each screen is individually available for private hire – perfect for everything from corporate events to those special family celebrations.  Choose from the latest blockbuster or play an old favourite, fancy watching that family classic on the big screen, we’ve got you covered.


If you’re looking for something a little different to delight the kids, we’ve got the perfect range of party packages to suit any age range or group size.

We have private event spaces to host parties, buffets and meals prior or after your screening. We have a range of set menus to choose from, including afternoon tea, charcuterie and buffets. Our highly talented kitchen team can create you a bespoke menu to suit your requirements and compliment your event.
