SCRIPT TO SCREEN: FILMS

Script to Screen features a Friday evening film showing specially selected to highlight a particular aspect vital to screenwriting. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy a pre-film introduction and post-film Q&A with Freya, where she will go into depth on how the film illustrates a specific aspect of the craft. This is a unique and exciting season not to be missed!

Citizen Kane (U)

Frequently voted one of the best films ever made, Orson Welles’s masterpiece tells the story of newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane in a series of flashbacks. A reporter is intrigued by the dying Kane’s last word – rosebud – and sets out to find a new angle on the life of one of the most powerful men in America. Nine Oscar nominations resulted in only one award for the outspoken Welles – Best Screenplay.

Good Will Hunting (15)

Poignant story of a troubled young genius who finds his allegiance to his friends and blue-collar background challenged by new opportunities. A beautiful postgraduate student and an unusual therapist aid him in his struggle to resolve the anger and confusion that accompany his extraordinary talent for assimilating information and solving vexing mathematical problems.

Blade Runner

The year: 2019. The place: Los Angeles, now a garish, bleak landscape. Harrison Ford is the blade runner–a lawman charged with hunting down illegal artificial humans known as ‘replicants’ in this gripping sci-fi adventure, which features stunning Oscar(R)-nominated sets and special effects, plus an unforgettable score by Vangelis. Co-starring Rutger Hauer and Sean Young.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Named “Best Picture of the Year” by over 100 critics nationwide! Two master warriors (Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh) are faced with their greatest challenge when the treasured Green Destiny sword is stolen. Set against 19th-century China’s breathtaking landscape, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the action-packed, box office smash from acclaimed director Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm) featuring stunning martial arts choreography by Yuen Wo Ping (The Matrix).

Mad Max: Fury Road

Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot’s five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.
