Quarantine Q+A with Joanna

Quarantine Q+A with Joanna

As the third national lockdown looms, we’re taking the time to get you more acquainted with our wonderful team. This time we talk to Sous Chef, Joanna.

How long have you been a part of the Abbeygate Team?

6 years.

What’s your favourite film? Why should people watch it?

The Blues Brothers! It’s hilarious, the music is amazing, and Carrie Fisher has a rocket launcher.

What are you watching right now?

Mostly sewing tutorials on YouTube – my latest lockdown hobby. I’m also revisiting lots of old favourite, like Lost, Scrubs and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Any book recommendations?

I’ll always suggest the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. It’s a fantasy parody series that somehow has police procedurals, Shakespeare parodies and tributes to classic Hollywood.

What are you listening to?

Mostly podcasts! My favourite at the moment is Delicious Legacy – a great look at the history of food. When I’m listening to music it’s mostly singing along to show tunes while I’m cooking dinner.

What’s your lockdown guilty pleasure?

A gin and tonic or three!

What’s your favourite thing to have happened at Abbeygate?

When we put on a special 3-course menu for a screening of “100 Foot Journey”. It was great to make something really different and special for our customers.

What are you most excited to do when this is over?

I can’t wait to be able to travel again. I’ve a long list of places I’d like to visit.
